Issues

The Product Design team asked me to work on the copy for the Vault, Akt.io’s alternative to standard savings accounts.

The main tasks were:

  • Make the copy more user-friendly

  • Make the copy consistent with existing web and app copy

  • Work with the Product Owner and the Compliance team to make sure copy is factually correct

  • Give recommendations on improving the UX & copy

Copy and Design

The product screens were stored in Figma.

I audited each screen for each flow and created an Airtable database for every line of copy (104 lines in total), making comments and recommending alternatives.

Conclusions

  • Inconsistencies: 10% of the copy was flagged for being inconsistent with similar existing messaging already live

  • Design: I had design notes on things like the colour scheme which couldn’t be implemented due to the product being in a late stage of development

  • Style: There were many instances of unclear calls-to-action or passive language

Recommendations

  • Bring UX Writing / Content Design in earlier: UX Writing should be included in the design process, in order to help shape content strategy and prevent inconsistencies in the first place

  • Create a style guide: UX Writing can help by establishing voice and tone guidelines for Akt.io, then expanding these into a content style guide, in order to help developers
